NEWSABC Smoking Cessation website for Tasmanian health professionals In March 2010, we began work with the Department of Health and Human Services, redeveloping the New Zealand Ministry of Health ABC Smoking Cessation website for Tasmanian health professionals. The New Zealand Ministry of Health have kindly granted permission for the module to be adapted, with the aim of supporting health professionals in other countries to help increase quit attempts. The finished website will have information and scenarios specific to Tasmania, and will help Tasmanian health professionals know how best to support people in giving up smoking. Justin moving on After many years in consulting, seven at Wavelength, and two years sharing Wavelength's chief executive role, Justin's moving on and into a management role at IAG New Zealand Limited. Gareth Parry has shared the chief executive role with Justin for the last two years, and will continue on as CEO. Top of the world for learning excellence 20 November 2009 was an exciting day for our team after we’d heard the results of the Brandon Hall Excellence in Learning Awards through a web conference from New York. While we already knew that two of the three entries we submitted in the international competition were winners, the question was – how would we be placed? The high point was hearing that we’d won the only Gold in the Best Results of a Learning Programme category. This category, for workplace learning programmes that make use of learning technology and achieve desirable results’, was one we had never been placed in before. The entry for this award was Purchasing claimant services, a programme developed with ACC. Almost as exciting was the win of Silver, one of two Silvers awarded in the Best Use of Blended Learning – this year’s most hotly contested category. Our winning entry, My Meridian training, was developed with Meridian. It helps Meridian employees introduce customers to the new Meridian portal and explain how the portal can be used to access customers’ account details and manage their energy use. As in other years, we faced stiff competition from multinational companies and proved once again that bigger isn’t always better. Wavelength speakers at ALGIM symposium Director, Bern Dougherty, and Joint Chief Executive, Gareth Parry have been invited as keynote speakers at this year’s customer service symposium for the Association of Local Government Information Managers (ALGIM). The symposium will be held in New Plymouth on 11 September and the topic of Gareth’s and Bern’s presentation will be Introduction into Induction – an area in which Wavelength has a wealth of experience and expertise. No resting on our laurels Chasing the success of previous years, Wavelength has once again entered the global Brandon Hall Awards for Excellence. This year we have entered three categories: Best Custom Content, Best use of Blended Learning, and Best Results of a Learning Programme. Talking about books As a Books in Homes sponsor, Wavelength recently visited Ngati Toa School in Titahi Bay to attend the Duffy books assembly. Two of our Wellington staff handed out books to the children, who also listened to a well-known person from their community speak about the importance of reading and how books influenced his life. |
